and one last picture of a Five Foot Way and the Red and Yellow theme of the past few days 🙂

The term “five-foot” describes the width of the covered sidewalks. The overhanging canopy, roof extension or projected upper floor on top of the five foot ways provides a cover to shield pedestrians from the sun and rain. As the ground floor of most commercial buildings in downtown areas is occupied by shops or eating places, the five foot ways also function as corridors for people to window-shop or look for refreshment. These corridors were used by traders to set up various small businesses in the past, and are still used this way in many countries.

Another pictures is little red (and yellow) chairs along the 5-foot way.

The Five Foot way is a rooftop continuous walkways commonly found in front of shops in Singapore.

Although it looks like European arcade along the streets, it is a building feature that suits the local climate, and characterizes the town-scape and urban life of this region.

Wednesday Woodworking Workshop – Week 8

When the teacher tells you to choose a non-pattern fabric you should listen…. because teacher knows best.

Matching the pattern at the seam was not my favorite thing to do during this woodworking workshop. Well at least now travisher is not my number 1 least favorite thing to do 😉

Monday Murals – TRANS Family Service Center by Yip Yew Chong (2/3)

Another series of murals painted by Yip Yew Chong I had to chase in an HDB

The slogan on this newly painted mural is the mission and vision of TRANS Family Service Centre (FSC), a non profit secular organization that provides social services to individuals and families, from all walks of life, as they navigate through challenging times. Established in 1979, TRANS FSC now has 5 centres across Singapore that organise outreach activities and provide support and counseling to the communities. This mural was created to commemorate their 40 years of services.

Difficult time ahead of us.

I hope you’ll all think of us in Singapore when temperatures plunge below the inhuman 25°C (that’s 75° for those who are more used to Fahrenheit)

Think about it we might have to stop our AC… we have NO idea how to do this, we lost the manual years ago.
