Woodworking Workshop Wednesday – Project #3: the Walnut Shaker Foot Stool.

This was a small project, compare to the last 2 (Chair & Table) but intense as it was 2 full days and a lot more precise with less room for errors.

The masterpiece,
The signature of the masterpiece
The details: the planned and unplanned ones,
And as usual the picture of all involved even thought it was mainly Liuyang and I.

Woodworking Workshop Wednesday – Project 3

And sometimes you hit the mallet a bit too strong and it slips the wood. Oops! Well when you have a very skilled teacher, he repaired that in a pinch and it actually gives your stool a little Je Ne Sais Quoi 😉

PS: I was his last student as he decided to concentrate on his own business (making high-end wooden furniture fully by hand, no machinery) after this class… but it wasn’t my fault, it was a planned departure!!

And miracle it all fits in.
Might have had just a tiny bit of help by an extremely patient teacher.

Woodworking Workshop Wednesday – Project #3

They were teaching another class with different skills and I somehow got sucked into it.
This one requires precision (more then sweat)… tapping into my forte (NOT!)

Woodworking Workshop Wednesday Finale

Tada…Here’s the final masterpiece and just like the chair it was signed by all involved:  GuangJun, owner of Tombalek, John the prime teacher (there was also Nic but it was his day off when I finished so didn’t get to sign it!) & Cheong master of finishing touches.  They all helped me out one way or another during the 4 classes/weeks (+ 2 extras).

The “Merci” t-shirt is for continuity with the end of Chairmaking photo:

Woodworking Workshop Wednesday.

The end of the tunnel…. a long long tunnel where you have to sand with 40 Grit then 80, then 120. You might think that at 240 grit it’s baby skin soft then you do a last pass at 400 and then you realized how wrong you were thinking it was smooth at 240.

You are all proud of yourself but see a tiny imperfection and you know because you’ve been through it with your chair making that you’d better address it right away or it will bug you each time you see it. Back to 120 grit, 240 grit, and 400 grit.

Big reveal next week 😉
