Baby girl is leaving the little paradise that she called home for the past 6-month to embark on a trip that will take her to another island at the antipode. A little less than a month of vacation in her old turf and by her family before going back to her studies in Europe.

It will take her 36+ hours of door-to-door travel time but she’ll lose one day in the process. Leaving St Barth on the 13th and arriving in Singapore on the 15th.

Thank goodness for the modern technology that keep us connected.

Remembering when I left home 29 years ago and my parents had to wait until I had arrived at my final destination to receive a phone call reassuring them that I had made it safely to my destination… at some “stranger” home and a country I barely spoke the language, plus no daily communication either as I couldn’t afford the per minute rate between the USA and France phone call 😱

It’s time to say goodbye.

Closing our summer house in La Rivière and flying back home to Singapore for the 4th year.

Until next time.

Enjoying one last breakfast al fresco reading the local newspaper.

While I’ll miss the garden, I cannot complain about my morning view in Singapore overlooking the wide open space toward Malaysia from my 28th floor balcony.

I couldn’t resist a little GIF of the drive in the pitch dark, very narrow and not one-way (!) tunnel.

The roads in the Vercors are not for the fainted heart but it is so beautiful.

And no this in not a one-way road 😉

“La Montagne, Ca Vous Gagne” *

This was the slogan in the 90s to entice more people to go to the mountains, not only during the wintertime but also in the summer.

With more and more people enjoying nature and being tired of overcrowded beach (plus the more and more frequent heatwave) the French Alps is sure a great idea.

* loosely translate to “The Mountain, It Wins You Over”

Last day of daughter’s 6-month internship in St Barthélemy.

What an incredible experience of working in an amazing hotel in such a paradise.

It took a little longer than expected to have this photo with almost nobody.

Son started to losing his cool when I kept telling him after this group leave we’ll take my picture and go but more and more people were coming through so I settled with those 2 present in my photo ;-).

A panorama to show you the beautiful 180° view.

To the left Grenoble and the roads toward either the north with Switzerland and/or Italy or to the south with Marseille, Cannes/Nice.

To the right, around the mountain Valence and the expressway to the South of France (passing by our summer house!)

While we are standing on the Chartreuse range, the mountain across that we look at is the Vercors.

Another great view of the Valley and the different mountains from 940m (3,040ft) altitude. For reference the valley (hence Grenoble) is at +/- 200m (700ft)

This is located closer to Grenoble near the Notre Dame de Chalais Monastery.

While the monastery date back to 1100, the present community of Dominican nuns bought the property in 1963 and restored it. Today the nuns of Chalais manufacture Monastic biscuits to cover their expenses.
