Small pleasure in life. Reading the local newspaper in the shade on a very hot summer afternoon.

The fact that the newspaper was from April isn’t relevant in this narrative.

It’s Tuesday and I should be at canoe.

This is me thinking of them. (IYKYK)

On our way back to the car I did a small detour (unknowingly to the teenage boy) by a park. There were a dozen tables set up and what appear to be chess and go players.

It turned out to be a Chess club demonstration. We stopped to watch a young lady playing against 5 people and then a bit further away I noticed the Sho-gi boards. I wouldn’t have known what it was if the boy hadn’t shown it to me a few weeks prior (it was in a mangas).

He wasn’t in a hurry to leave anymore and got a initiation to the “Japanese Chess” game.

You might have left Asia but Asia has not quite left you 😉

I strongly suggest not to go shopping in town with a teenage boy. They have zero patience once you have complete the initial task you came for.

Grenoble you were beautiful under the blue sky and quite pleasant temperature, I guess I’ll have to come back on my own to fully appreciate you. What’s a couple more days/weeks since our last encounter 3 years ago anyway?

Our trip to Switzerland wasn’t in vain, we bought Mustard to take back to France.

Shelves in France supermarket have been bare of Mustard for weeks. A year of poor mustard seed production is the cause of a lack of mustard on grocery store shelves. Experts say you can thank climate change for the large drop in mustard seed production, with Canada (the world’s second largest producer) and France watching the most recent growing season’s yields fall 28 percent and 50 percent, respectively, because of drought and bad weather. As Russia and Ukraine are also large producers of mustard seeds, the ongoing war isn’t helping the importing efforts either.

And this is how we became mustard smuggler.

PS: in case you thought my Singapore posts were boring in the past few weeks… This should make you wish I was still posting boring Singapore pictures. 😂

When we visit a country we try to sample their best food in the best environment. Case in point with Switzerland.

It was raining so hard we didn’t even make it to the shore of the Lac Leman and instead decided to sample the most expensive Big Mac in the comfort of our own car. I’m telling you, living the high life. 😉

At 6.98 U.S. dollars, Switzerland has the most expensive Big Macs in the world, according to the January 2022 Big Mac index. Concurrently the cost of a Big Mac was 5.81 dollars in the U.S., and 4.95 U.S. dollars in the euro area. (Statista)

We did a little road trip.

Because moving country is not only for Mother & Son, it also happens for daughter too this year.

The trip was a quick round trip to pick her stuff before she goes on her end-of-study friend’ trip. Weather was rainy so no nice pictures of Lac Leman… these will have to wait until we come back mid July for graduation.

Apricots, peaches, cherries, strawberries… are defined as exotic fruits in my mind because I craved them for the past 2 years.

On a side note I just looked at the price of Passion fruits and my “fear” was justified… the price for one fruit here is the same as a bag of 5-6 fruits there.

Life back “home”.

Apparently Singapore weather has decided to follow me to France. Everyone is complaining about the “Canicule” (heat wave) and I have to remind myself not to mention that without the 80% of humidity it’s not that bad…. Then I remember there is also the lack of AC.
