Monday Murals – “Pure Imagination” by Sam Lo (skl0)
It was painted in May 2021 and it’s located just down the street from our place.
According to the Instagram post: “The design was inspired by the schools in the neighborhood and that the building used to be a school. I imagined the daydreams the students had looking out the windows as they watched their ideas float by, and remembered all over again how that felt to dream freely with no limits”.
This month I’m sharing murals from artist Sam Lo:
Lo was dubbed the “Sticker Lady” for their pasting of stickers utilising Singlish phrases, such as Press Until Shiok and Anyhow Paste Kena Fine, at traffic-light junctions and public spaces. In 2012, Lo was arrested for spray painting the words “My Grandfather Road” on Maxwell Road and Robinson Road. Their arrest by the police for vandalism sparked an outcry over their work, prompting debates over whether it could be seen as a work of art or vandalism. They were later charged for mischief and sentenced to 240 hours of community service in 2013.
