Perseverance and a slight stubbornness on my part but I finally found the “stairs that lead to a big open hole with the tree peeking through it”.

I took a friend on a photo walk yesterday around Chinatown and a street lined up with shophouses that I really like and it gave me the creative push to go and look for it today. I kind of knew where it was but it wasn’t actually where I thought it was. Lots of sweating walking around… and maybe a few wrong turns!

In fact, I “needed” a photo of stairs to complete the trio for my Instagram feed (I posted a different one there by the way) so it was either today or I would have had to come up with another solution.

Knowledge might be power, but it’s much more powerful when it’s shared.

When I arrived in Singapore in 2016 I asked so many people where this place was. It wasn’t a popular “Instagramable spot” yet and I had only seen a handful of photos with no information beside Fort Canning, and Fort Canning park is big! Each time I asked I got vague answers. Then one day I found the post and each time someone asked me I shared with joy the exact spot, pinpointed on the map, gave them the path to take. “Helping others is the secret sauce to a happy life” – Todd Stocker

I left for our first expat posting (in Buenos Aires) before internet; no expat forums, no social media, no group chats. I didn’t even know Expat groups existed and you could socialize around a coffee or lunch, ask your million questions without being judged, get support when you were feeling down, and get a bunch of friends (sometimes for life if you were lucky) out of it. There were so much support among each others and it is still true in the majority of the cases today even with all the information at our fingertips it doesn’t replace human interaction and first hand knowledge.

~~~Just a little FYI So for my last 200 days in Singapore I have decided to reblog, in no special order, a post from the 6 years I will have spent on the Little Red Dot. PS: you will then get 2 posts a day!!~~~
