Di Tanjong Katong – 2020

“This painting was specially done for a music video to "Di Tanjong Katong”, an endearing song many of us sang during our childhood days. It was also an unusual collaboration with Gendang Akustika, a Malay musical ensemble, who invited me to join them in creating this little National Day gift. Like the song lyrics, my mind pines for the old Tanjong Katong beach, its idyllic kampong and kelongs. The clear blue sea merges with the azure blu sky and under it, villagers fish, relax and play carefreely. I hear the waves lap and coconut trees rustle. I hear the tune of “Di Tanjong Katong” singing in my heart.“

Back in March/April Yip Yew Chong had a few exhibitions across Singapore. The first one was at ArtPorters gallery with some of his mural inspired art and then 2 exhibitions back to back, one at the Substation, followed by one in the hotel Sofitel. Those pieces were slightly different than his murals but still very intrigued and detailed paintings. You could lose yourself in front of each of his canvas. I will post one each Monday (it will last until the end of the year!!! Yeah one less post to think about 😉)

Your mission today, if you accept it, is to locate a grocery store. Bigger than the convenient shop in your apartment complex but smaller than the 5-story We-sell-everything-from-salt-to-fridge store you’ve been to lately.

Mission accepted: Drove my big car on the “wrong” side of the road and located a tiny parking space.

The supermarket was tiny, ok not as tiny as my locale supermarket in my neighborhood in Beijing. But I managed to find most of the things I had on my shopping list.

I will scout some other stores located not far from our apartment in the next few days to assess the offering then I will do like everybody else and order online (I can even do it thru an app on my phone)… Same prices, free deliver and I won’t have to get all the bags from the car to the 28th floor 😉

10-Jan-2022: D-160 before departure

Vacation is over… back to regular programming 😉

Singapore will be the country in which I will have lived the longest (China will be a tie but it was twice 3 years, not 6 years in a row).

After moving every 3 to 4 years since I left France 30 years ago, I’m kind of missing the settling in in a new country, the discoveries, the thrill and even the frustration (it keeps you busy 😉). You’ve got to get out of your comfort zone and jump in. It’s a swim or sink kind of situation.

~~~ Just a little FYI, so for my last 200 days in Singapore I have decided to reblog, in no special order, a post from the 6 years I will have spent on the Little Red Dot. PS: you will then get 2 posts a day!! ~~~
