Monday Murals

A different kind of murals this week. Not design with paint but with plants. This is the World Largest Vertical garden.

Standing at 19-meter high and 110-meter wide the 2,125 square metres green wall at Ocean Financial Center achieved the Guinness World Record for the Largest Vertical Garden on 13 September 2013. It is an eco-breakthrough which has placed Singapore on the world map of sustainability.

Close to 57,000 pots of plants make up the map of Singapore Southeast Asia and the World on the vertical garden. It is further enhanced with a three-dimensional effect with different growth protrusions of 25 plant species.

This vertical greenery not only helps to reduced the surface temperature of the car park, it also acts as a green lung filtering out vehicular emissions, and provides visual relief from the dense concrete Central Business District.

Sunday quote

Not wrong in Singapore.

When you walk slowly and open your eyes you see signs all around you.

We take crowd management seriously in Singapore, which means we haven’t had any cases in the community in months.

Not only do we have to check in and check out of every stores we go (with masks!) but in certain high traffic malls there is a crowd management on the weekend, depending on the number of your ID card you can enter or not.

This particular mall is favored by the Filipinos helpers for example and can be very crowded on the weekend so you can either go on the Saturday or the Sunday (depending if it’s a odd or even date).

Frenchies Friendsgiving went well.

The secret of a successful Thanksgiving is inviting people who never went to a Thanksgiving dinner… so there’s no comparison possible. 😉

They even liked the pumpkin pie (oh mon dieu 😱) but loved my awesome Pecan Pie.

The rest of the courses were also a big win but I didn’t go too crazy and didn’t make sweet potatoes casserole with marshmallows for example…. I didn’t want to ruin some perfectly good friendship 😉

The family portrait of the previous post are actual prints of the Rock Portrait series.

  • The idea of printing a portrait of our family on a rock started when we lived in Norway (2009-2013)
  • The bricks (street pavement) were collected when we lived in Beijing (2013-2016)
  • The portraits were captured just before dear daughter left Singapore in 2018
  • All those element were assembled sometimes in 2019
  • Come 2020 and just before the movers had to pack them I took some pictures of the rock since I realized I never made the final art piece I wanted to make of them* but wanted to keep some prints in Singapore

In conclusion I have a very slow process between the genesis of an idea and the completion (10+ years) 😉

* it’s a moving piece (more 3D than 2D): each side of the bricks have different portraits and grouping of people. Front is our individual portraits, back is Parents Vs Children and the sides are each parent with a different child.

I’m pretty sure you have my date of birth in your database Gleneagles hospital.

Not only I’m past my prime (only for child bearing 😜) but I’m also sans husband (but that you couldn’t know)

Abstract…. not quite a Monday Murals but

Take the time to look, really look and you’ll find beauty everywhere*

“The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” ~Marcel Proust
