Monday Murals Reminiscing Old Changi Days by Yip Yew Chong

This 37m long mural at Changi Airport Terminal 4 Basement level reminisces the old Changi days before Changi Airport was built in 1970s. From aeroplane-watching at Changi beach, to peeking over the fence of the Royal Air Force Station; From playing ‘tarik upih’ with village kids, to shopping and dining at the variety of shophouses lining Changi Village; The mural transports you to a charming old world brimming with new aspirations.

Instead of taking a picture of the long mural on each side of the corridor I decided to take a picture of each panel and post them over a longer period of time. The murals are so full of details it seems like a waste of the artist work and talent to not give it justice.

Monday Murals – Samsui by Yip Yew Chong.

An abstract and colourful interpretation of the hardy Samsui Women, who migrated to Singapore from Southern China in the 1940s and worked mainly in the construction industry to make a living. This delightful installation outside the newly opened Samsui Restaurant at Changi Jewel L3, showcases their simple “lunch box” eating utensils.  The Samsui Restaurant is part of the popular Cantonese cuisine group “Soup Restaurant”.
