The visit to the shipyard by the river Buriganga was quite interesting, eye opening and mesmerizing.

The facilities, which employ around 15,000 workers at around $5 a day, work to both break down massive shipping vessels as well as create new ships from the parts.

The workers were all very friendly and welcoming. Willingly posting for photos (or even asking to be photographed)…. given them a little break from the welding, metal cutting, painting etc…

On the sides streets of the shipyard there are foundries for propellers (last picture) and even the huge cables winches.
No cranes or forklifts, simple hand tools… it’s like you step back in the 19th century.

WordPress readers…. a few more pictures on the original post.
