Cultural differences.
As Europeans, and because of our history (“collaboration”), we have a hard time with “délation” (act of denunciation) but it’s highly encourage here.
Neighbors telling on neighbors, people snapping pictures of your car not perfectly park exactly between the 2 lines, etc… Our condo Facebook group is full of it and we can very much see the difference of culture between the westerners and the locals.

Reminds me of some communist states, big brother is watching you, now the want the neighbors to rat you out. Hummm, might be time for a move.
I did like the image, when I fist looked I had a different thought, then I read the detail. Cameras on every pole must not be enough. Sad, very sad!
For me it’s more of the little things that gets reported that “bother” me but on the other hands it makes the whole country work very efficiently. I do make an effort for example to park my car correctly so it doesn’t bother other. Everyone is respectful, it’s clean, etc…
The position of Singapore between Malaysia and Indonesia is also strategic and there’re plenty of posters that says “it’s not if but when…” about having a possible attack.
I take the security 100 times over the “fear” of sending my kids to school and thinking that might be the day there’ll be a shooting on the ground or even at the movie or not thinking twice of them taking public transport safely at any hours.
My post was to highlight cultural differences and how they are highly rooted in history. For example in Europe it’s illegal to classify people by their ethnicity (which you do in the USA and they do here)… why? Well because of how the information was used during the war. It bothers me when I’m in the States that I have to check “White” but again I put it under cultural differences and acknowledge why we are different.
That’s the beauty of the world… it would be boring if it was all the same everywhere.
