Hungry Ghost Month

In Chinese culture the seventh month (in the Chinese calendar so generally August in the Western calendar) is Ghost Month in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm.

So during the month you’ll often see people burning offering for their ancestors. These offerings usually take the form of paper money but also things like house, cars, technology and even clothes in the form of paper. Small fire or incense burning accompanied by food and drinks can also be seen on the side of the road. Not to be taken 😉

PS: I have awesome pictures of those houses, cars, phones, shoes and/or clothes in paper form but of course I cannot locate them to include them on this post 😔
