The Nine Arches Bridge (also called the Bridge in the Sky) is on the train line between Ella and Demodara station.
This bridge, which is almost 100 years old, has been built with blocks of stone and cement without any strengthening iron or concrete. The giant arches take the bridge on a curved path to link two mountains. The Bridge was commissioned in 1921 under the British Government.

The train ride between Nuwara Eliya and Ella is often described as one of the world most picturesque ride.
The two cities are only distanced by 60 Kms but it take 3 to 4 hours between them. (It’s 53 km by the roads and take about the same amount of time!).
There are some incredible views across the southern Sri Lankan hill country as the train passes in and out of numerous mountain tunnels, through tea plantations, eucalyptus forests and nearby villages.
