Welcome coffees.

Welcome luncheons

Welcome dinners

Welcome cocktails

At one point I’ll be all welcomed and will get to move on to coffees, luncheons, dinners and cocktails with friends instead of acquaintances.

Grocery shopping is officially back on the hate list again.

You would think that with the more limited choice in Beijing (yet a lot better than during our fist time there) I would be in heaven here with the choice.

Well on one hand yes, each time I go grocery shopping I can see myself pulling out from the back of my mind recipes I haven’t done in years. On the other hand NO. While the choice is great, the grocery stores are not well located (oh the joy of going to the store on my scooter in Beijing!!) and there is almost never a direct link between the parking lot and the grocery store (very limited parking places and stairs to get to the stores) So I’m left with carrying the multiple bags (because I still always forget I have to carry them!) to the car (plus I need to carry them from the car to the elevator then the apartment)

I know I know first world problem.

But it’s my party, I mean blog, and I’ll cry, I mean pity myself, if I want to 😉

When I tell you this apartment was made for giants (I could understand in our house in Norway but, and I know I’m being very stereotypical here, in Asia!)

I always hauling this footstool around the kitchen to reach any of my top cupboards, even for the lowest shelf I have to be on my tiptoes 😭

There’s two sure ways to meet new people and find new friends when you move around:

Having kids in school.
The younger the better. For some odd reasons, pass a certain age they don’t like it so much when you take them to the gate, kiss them in front of their friends and wave to them until they reach their classroom. That’s actually just you showing off to the other moms around how good of a mom you are!

Another way is animals:

More specifically the kind you walk around i.e. dogs. You just look weird with a cat on a leash or walking around with your fish bowl… Just saying. Park are the best place and you don’t look out of place when you congratulate somebody on their little pooch!

Apparently going to the gym is another way of meeting people. Or so I’ve heard.
Well gym + me = never been friends. I gave it a try last week and as you can see not a lot of potential, I guess I’ll have to come back and try at a different time.

I mainly went because there is cafe right next to it and after meeting new friends at said gym I could, in a few months, default to my standard go-to line: “you go to the gym I’ll meet you at the cafe after your workout”. It worked with BFF Elke in Beijing I have hope it will work here too 😉

Hello Monday!!

There is worse view to be doing your ironing.

The only better way would be to not do it 😉

We finally received our dining room table so we put our temporary “dining” room table where it belongs, the balcony!

That’s probably where we’ll have most of our dinners I’m pretty sure…until monsoon season starts. But again we lived in Norway for 4 years and rain doesn’t scare us 😉

BTW the white building next to us is beautiful with the pink sunset light reflection.

The hawkers center right by our apartment complex is becoming our go to place for chicken rice (one of Singapore National dish) and by the size of the queue at certain time it has quite a following.

Maybe we have the next Michelin star right at our door steps 😉

***

Just in case you didn’t hear about it… “Two hawker stalls have been awarded the one-star rating by Michelin, in the first Singapore Michelin Guide” (http://ift.tt/2cPU61G). You can come to Singapore and say you have eating at a Michelin Star restaurant and it will only cost you about S$4 ($3-€2.50!)

I bought a tall ladder today.

Aren’t you all excited?!

And all of a sudden you get double the storing space at your disposal.

There are some very high cupboards storage in this apartment.

When you realized that ¾ of your wardrobe is totally utterly useless here 😦

And you don’t have a lot of storage capacity (because you have also a lot of totally utterly useless crap that needs to also find a place!)

And anyway the lowest temperature recorded in Singapore (in January 1934) was 19C/66F so your Norwegian sweaters, Mongolian cashmere or lovely leather jacket handmade in Beijing might not see the light of day for a very long time!!!

Something strange happened this morning I found myself checking out the gym facility in our apartment complex.

The last time it happened was back circa 2006-2007 in Seasons Park, our apartment complex at the time, in Beijing!!! Can you tell I’m a workout alcoholic 😉 .

I hope nobody noticed my “deer caught in the headlight” look when I enter the facility and saw the equipment…. Every workout person would have felt like a kid in a candy store or like the morning of Christmas Day. I felt a little, what’s the word I’m looking for, overwhelmed? terrified? 🙂

To be fair it happened because I had no coffee meet-up to go to, no friends to see, no new stores to explore and no matter how many time I hit the refresh button on my iPhone AND computer, there were really no new updates on Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat and I don’t know how many others I checked. It really was the only excuse that popped in my mind to avoid for another hour unpacking yet another box with content I have no idea where to put.
