I forgot to post this photo during Spring Festival.
Red envelopes (红包-HongBao) are given to children by the elderly during Chinese New Year. The amount of money contained in the envelope usually ends with an even digit (odd-numbered money gifts are traditionally associated with funerals!). The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits.
Children usually bow in front of the elderly when they request their envelope (討紅包-tao hongbao). As you can see we take traditions very seriously 😉
