The madness of the Lunar New Year is in full swing. Firecrackers are being lit right and left in order to scare away evil spirits.
While fireworks have been on sale since February 3rd (and will be until February 12) they’ve only been allowed to be fired since February 7 and until the 22nd and only from 7am to midnight (thank goodness!!)… because 17 hours of feeling like the city is under siege is enough for me 🙂
The tradition is to set off one string of small firecrackers first, followed by three big firecrackers, which symbolize “sounding out” the old year and “sounding in” the new year. The louder the three firecrackers, the better and luckier it’s believed it will be for business and farming in the coming year.
